The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), established in 2006 by the State Legislature of Punjab, is a premier law university located in Patiala, Punjab. Recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC), RGNUL has been accredited with an 'A' Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Admissions to the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.M. programs are based on the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) scores. For the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) program, candidates must have completed 10+2 with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST candidates). For the LL.M. program, a LL.B. degree with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) is required. Ph.D. admissions require a master’s degree in law or a relevant discipline, along with an entrance test.
RGNUL has been ranked among the top law universities in India. In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023, it secured the 10th position among law colleges.
The university has a dedicated placement cell that facilitates internships and job placements. Top recruiters include law firms such as Trilegal, AZB & Partners, and Luthra & Luthra; corporates like Ernst & Young and Deloitte; and government and public sector units. The highest package offered has been in the range of ₹18-20 lakhs per annum, with an average package of ₹12-15 lakhs per annum.
RGNUL offers various scholarships, including merit-based scholarships for top-performing students, need-based financial assistance for economically disadvantaged students, and government scholarships as per state and central government schemes.
